Embarking on a journey

It was before my 20th birthday in 1979 when I purchased a 1965 Mustang. Unfortunately, i crashed it, head on into a tree going a little over 100 mph, and lived. This was 1979. Fast forward to 2009 and I'm turning 50 in July. If I don't do something about this car now, I never will and I will regret it. This is a story of taking a car, long since forgotten by many, from the back corner of my garage and rebuilding it into something, something of which I will be proud.

We were a family of Mustangs. My Dad had a new 1967 maroon coupe, my mom had a 1969 Sportsroof, that later became mine. I bought my Mom as red 1967 coupe with a black vinyl roof as a replacement. My brother Michael had a 1967 coupe that had a hot 289, four speed that he added custom flares and some other goodies. My brother Mark owned a 1969 Mach 1 with a 390. I was working in a NAPA store and had several Mustangs that I was restoring.

This car was a little different than all the other pony's my family had owned. This car was heavily modified by someone and was known to us as "The Custom". What was custom about it? Stay tuned, my next post will reveal some special things about this car.
